When I put it into the unit I get a pop up screen saying bad format and when I go to the memory card section and try to format the card I get another pop up screen saying stop log first. Thanks on the info on the USB-cable, I was starting to suspect that the navilink-usb-thingie only connected to the internal memory of the unit. If you come by one, your GPSr will let you know.

Hi Frederik, did you use the navilink software the first time when connected or gpsresults? A SD-card is mandatory in the swedish events, for instance. When traveling where gt-311 car or mains power is available, you may purchase an AA battery adapter, or a rechargeable power bank Solar charger to extend the usage.
Unlike the BGT the GT never had any problems with keeping the fix when stowed away in my bag or in the car. Thanks for the help so far guys, much appreciated!
Another minor thing that changed hardware wise is the background light. A detailed overview can be found in the GT Owner's manual Let's go through the whole menu and see what each point does and how it compares to it's predecessor.
